Global Performance Studio / eXchange
A Program for Cultural Listening & Exchange + Process & Performance
The Global Performance Studio, led by Tom Pearson, is dedicated to creating work through collaboration, sharing the site-specific and experiential performances practices of Third Rail Projects, and engaging with communities around the world. GPS cultivates opportunities for Tom and members of the Third Rail Projects community to work with local artists and to foster diplomacy through shared practice, dialogue, and community building–all within a framework of cultural listening and peer-to-peer artist exchange. In addition, GPS seeks to create a network among the artists it works with to share resources, opportunities, residencies, and methodologies. To-date, GPS has worked with artists in the United States, Hong Kong, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Italy, and Russia.
GPS DOCUMENTARY
I think that’s what’s particularly unique and powerful [about the Global Performance Studio]… that it’s a true collaboration... you’re coming up with these ideas together, and so it’s a true cross-cultural exchange. – Susan Katz, CEC Artslink

RESPONSIVE
CULTURAL LISTENING & SHARED PRACTICE
The Global Performance Studio is an international platform that fosters circuits of globally-minded, artist-led site-specific and immersive performance activity. Tom Pearson and members of Third Rail projects work regionally with artists across the globe to devise projects and present them to local communities in multiple cities around the world.
MISSION
GPS’s mission is to respond to the participating artists, the site, and the context of the time in which they meet, conducting workshops that share Tom and Third Rail Projects’s processes and practices used in the creation of his award-winning site-specific and experiential works. Local and regional participants are asked to bring their own methodologies and points of inquiry to enter into collaborative dialogue. Out of these workshops, cohorts conceive, develop, and present original experiences, with opportunities for extended performances and/or adaptations to new sites.
CONNECTION
For more information about our availability for international offerings and programs, including: educational and creative residencies, site-specific and immersive work, festival engagements and community building, cultural exchange, and more – send us an inquiry and start a conversation. GPS is excited by short form (1-3 weeks) or long form (1-3 months) engagements, designing new work with new communities in new sites, partnering with existing programs, or creating new ones. The Global Performance Studio is a responsive model and is continually growing and shaping around current world-wide interests in public art work, site-specific and immersive forms. GPS welcomes the opportunity to intersect with presenting partners, government agencies, and funding organizations in multiple areas, and its focus is on growing a forum for art to lead the way, to speak artist-to-artist, and to nurture broader collaborative communities, all within a framework of cultural listening and peer-to-peer exchange.
