About Agave Trio

Agave Trio by Tom Pearson was last on display at Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds from 2020-2021. It sold to a private collector in Summer 2021.

Agave Trio is a brushed aluminum sculpture of three Agave americana “Variegata”, which were installed inside the pathway of the Secret Garden at Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds. They were originally created for an installation in the “Mangrove,” or center area surrounding the Man, at the 2007 Burning Man Art Festival. They were situated inside of metal Warden cases on the branches of a metal scrollwork tree, which itself, sat upon an upside down EL wire garden. Subsequently, the Agave Trio have appeared in a number of other contexts including a Brooklyn Rooftop during the anniversary gala celebration for Theater for a New Audience (Summer Bash 2008) and onsite at Groundworks Garden Center in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (2009-2010). They have been part of multiple other art installations with Third Rail Projects, notably at Brookfield Place amid the World Financial Center (formerly the Winter Garden) and galleries within The Drifting Encyclopedia (2010), and at the former Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) in downtown NYC as part of a work entitled Kissing the Gunner’s Daughter (2010). Most recently, they were featured set pieces inside the site-specific dance/theater work, Ikaros, by Tom Pearson, which was commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse for the 2019 Without Walls Festival in San Diego. There, they served as a monument to three living agave within a desert walking path that were all three experiencing a death bloom. Agave Trio was part of the summer 2020 showcase at Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds.
